From the 12th to the 15th of January 16 attendee’s enjoyed the first Brewlab course of 2009. Once again we had overseas students joining people from all over the UK.
In a response a request from the Centre of Life in Newcastle Dr Keith Thomas and Chris Holliland created a Darwin celebration beer that was specifically designed with a blend of old traditional malts and new strains. Due to overwhelming demand thousands of bottles have now been made available at the Centre for Life and the Natural History Museum in London.
Brewlab and the IBD have arranged a four day course designed to teach the fundamentals of Brewing & Packaging.
The course would be suitable for all non technical personnel employed within the Brewing Industry who would benefit from background knowledge in beer production, (sales, marketing, HR, finance) or those who have just started a technical career within the brewing industry. It would also be appropriate for craft brewers seeking an initial qualification for their brewing career. It is based at Durham University.
The September 3 week Practical Brewing Course was a great success. All of the 11 students passed their placement reports and examinations with flying colours.
Students came to learn from a mixture of backgrounds with various levels of brewing knowledge and skills and we were happy to welcome our first Venezuelan attendee - Guillermo Onsalo.
The one day workshop gave students an understanding of the brewing process as well as showing them how to use a light microscope.
