Our new online Craft Brew Recipe Formulation course took place over the weekend as we delved into the process of creating beer recipes, covering everything from water treatment through to and malt and hop requirements.

The 4-hour session was designed for homebrewers who were keen to learn more about how professionals design and calculate recipes.

Upon completion , Brian Yorston led the course explained ‘It was great to hold a Saturday online session to home brewers on how a professional brewer approaches recipe development. We took the students through liquor, malt and hop grist formulation to plan a recipe. Although the subject introduced some difficult concepts for the new brewer including calculations, they went away with an understanding on the concepts of building up a recipe which they would never get through reading a book. I was also able to send them my recipe formulation spreadsheet which should assist them in the future. Questions during the session highlighted that ideas student get through reading books just don’t relay to real life brewing. Showing the benefit of being able to question a seasoned brewer. We intend to continue online sessions to the home brewer in December and early January.’
