Zachary Goldstein

Diploma Graduate

What inspired you to do the Brewlab course?
I started homebrewing in college as a hobby and quickly realized that I wanted to make craft beer my life. After doing an internship at a small brewery and managing a craft beer bar in NY I decided that it would be a good idea to get a more formal education to give me an edge in the marketplace.

Brewlab seemed like a great option because of the cost, ability to train in the UK and the hands on training they provided.

What areas of the Brewlab course were most beneficial to you?
Every week we got a chance to brew our own recipes. They didn’t need to be perfect or conform to style guidelines, which made experimenting with different malts, hops and yeasts a learning experience.

How beneficial did you find the practical side of the Brewlab course?
The practical brewing side of the course is part of the reason I signed up. Brewlab’s ability to balance classroom and hands on learning was great and kept the course moving along. It was great to apply what I learned in the classroom to my beers every week.

Was there a part of the course you particularly liked/enjoyed?
I really enjoyed getting to travel to different breweries each week and work with them. This provided me with the knowledge of how larger and smaller operations across the UK ran and functioned.

Where do you work now?
Stone Brewing Co. in Southern California

What is your position?
Assistant Brewer

Do you have a recipe you are most proud of?
I made a black IPA while I was in England called “Cheers, Rian” that came out very well.

What plans do you have for the future?
I plan on staying at Stone Brewing Co. for a while and then opening my own brewery in the future.
